According to Lakota oral history, the Creation story begins in the Black Hills; the Lakota name is “The Heart of Everything That<\/p>\n

Is”. The Creator put all of the Sacred into “The Heart of Everything That Is”, and then he gave the responsibility to the Lakotas to<\/p>\n

take care of it for Him. This sacred place belongs to Him, not the people<\/p>\n

\u201cRooted in the sacred story of the Red People in our genesis, we are building a new Turtle Lodge in one of our most sacred sites of Manitou Api. This Lodge will be the Peoples\u2019 Lodge, intended to unite all peoples of the world to experience the spiritual connection that we as the First Peoples have with the land, the common bond that ties us all together. Grandmother Aama Bombo Kathmandu, Nepal<\/h4>\n

Buddhi Maya Lama, also known as Aama Bambo (Mother Shaman), was born July 16, 1943 in the remote village of Melong in the Eastern part of the Bagmati Zone, Nepal. Her father was a renowned shaman in the Nepalese Tamang tradition. Aama became a shaman despite the Tamang tradition that women are not supposed to practice shamanism. In the early days, her father restricted her in every way from practicing shamanism. However, when her father died at the age of eighty, his spirits and other gods and spirits started visiting and teaching her to be a shaman, against the prevailing cultural values of Tamang society.<\/p>\n

She is the only woman to have ever been accepted into the highest order of shamans in Nepal \u2013 and she was even selected for a trip recently to meet with other shamans in Africa. Aama\u2019s prayers began daily at 3:00 am until sunrise, in her walking prayer near the famous Boudhanath Temple, in Kathmandu, near her home where she then proceeded to treat around 100 patients every morning, with patients who had visited her locally from around the country, India and Tibet and renown, as far away as Canada, USA, Australia, China and Europe. She does not discriminate against those she heals, treating the poorest of the poor and the Royal Family of Nepal with equal dedication and respect.<\/p>\n

UNITY CONCERT for the Black Hills, South Dakota 2014 – 2015 – 2016 – 2017<\/h4>\n

On September 13th and 14th, 2014, in the\u00a0Black<\/strong>\u00a0Hills<\/strong>\u00a0of South Dakota, thousands of people converged for a\u00a0UNITY<\/strong>\u00a0CONCERT<\/strong>, bringing together Native American tribes with those on the right side of justice to return the guardianship of the\u00a0Black<\/strong>\u00a0Hills<\/strong>\u00a0to the Great Sioux Nation.<\/p>\n

It has been OPINET’s honour and a priveldge coordinating and develping this initiatve for the four years.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

To honor the circle of Life, the sacredness of all Creation and in gratitude for all that we have been given, we celebrate in music and prayer for the fourth and final year in the sacred Black Hills. \u00a0Thousands of native and non-native peoples came together in South Dakota for The Black Hills Unity Concert in 2014, 2015 and 2016.\u00a0 These three extraordinary\u00a0free<\/strong>\u00a0gatherings were held in the name of cultural reconciliation and environmental restoration.<\/p>\n

In 2017, Sept 8-10, we gather in Piedmont, South Dakota once again. \u00a0We invite you to be a part of this honorable event! \u00a0Given the political environment of today and the challenges we see in the Black Hills, this coming together promises to be like no other. \u00a0The good seeds of unity, truth and compassion have been planted in so many ways over these past four years. Now we give thanks and encourage our family to keep holding each other high.<\/p>\n

We gather under the protection of indigenous ceremony and knowledge, to bring hope and unity among the different tribes of the Lakota, Nakota and Dakota (traditionally known as the Oceti Sakowin) and to raise voices for the return of the sacred lands of the Black Hills. Furthermore, the gatherings create a space for urgent social and environmental issues to be voiced and create invaluable alliances for the future. In addition to three days of musical celebration with top native and non-native talent, we achieve our objectives by offering speakers and workshops, space and time for elder meetings and an innovative youth program.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Standing Rock, North Dakota<\/h4>\n

The Standing Rock Reservation (Lakota: \u00cd\u014bya\u014b Wosl\u00e1l H\u00e1\u014b) lies across the border between North and South Dakota in the United States, and is inhabited by ethnic “Hunkpapa and Sihasapa bands of Lakota Oyate and the Ihunktuwona and Pabaksa bands of the Dakota Oyate,” as well as the Hunkpatina<\/p>\n

The Dakota Access pipeline (DAPL) is a $3.7bn project that would transport crude oil from the Bakken oil field in North Dakota to a refinery to Patoka, Illinois, near Chicago.<\/p>\n

The 1,172-mile pipeline, roughly 30 inches in diameter, would carry 470,000 barrels per day and is a project of company Energy Transfer Partners.<\/p>\n

Activists call themselves \u201cwater protectors\u201d and argue that the pipeline poses similar threats to the now defeated Keystone XL, but lament that DAPL has failed to garner the same amount of national attention. Tribal leaders also say that the US army corps of engineers\u2019 initial decision to allow the pipeline to run within a half-mile of the local reservation was done without consulting tribal governments and without a thorough study of impacts.<\/p>\n

This means, the tribe says, that the project violates federal law and native treaties with the US government.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Nisga’a Village of Gitwinksihlkw<\/h4>\n

One of four Nisga’a communities, Gitwinksihlkw is located on the north bank of the Nass River 100 kilometres northwest of Terrace, British Columbia. Home to 250 residents, Gitwinksihlkw offers cultural rich history, natural beauty, and access to Canada’s newest lava bed. \u00a0Canada’s last volcanic eruption occurred in Nisga’a territory approximately 250 years ago. The lava destroyed everything in its path, sparked fires in the surrounding forests, and covered two Nisga’a villages. More than 2,000 people perished. Survivors eventually resettled Gitwinksihlkw (Place of the Lizards). According to oral tradition, large lizards lived here before the eruption. Today, the lizards are gone but the vast lava beds still dominate the valley. They serve as a memorial to those who lost their lives and as a reminder of the importance of respect-for both the natural world and the wisdom of the elders.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
